Traverse City's Bay Area Transit Authority is getting ready to start construction on its agiing Cass street location which will include a new waiting area and overall upgrades.


On Thursday Bata received 6 bids to do the work and have tentatively selected Eckler Building Solutions who came in with the lowest bid.

Acme township planners expected to vote tonight on phase 1

Acme township planners near Traverse City are expected to vote on phase 1 of the proposed Village at Grand Traverse at their meeting this Monday night.


Part of Phase 1 includes places for a 214,000 square foot Meijer store at M72 and Lautner road. If approved, the plan goes before the township board for a final vote.

Bay harbor adding more emergency responders

The Petoskey Public Safety station near Bay Harbor is adding more emergency responders who will work out of the new West Public Safety Station.


The new officers will train for a few months before going to work in April.

Coast guard crews take part in disaster training

Local News

Coast guard crews took part in disaster training exercises on the Straits of Mackinac near St. Ignace yesterday.


This first time training exercise was meant to prepare emergency responders with how to deal with an oil spill in icy waters. A crude oil pipeline runs under the Straits.

commissioners vote to apply grant to build new housing

Boyne City commissioners have voted to apply for state grant dollars for a project to build new housing in the city.


Ken Kruzel wants to add one low-income and one fair market apartment to a building on South Lake Street. The city will apply for $70,000 in grants from the Michigan State Housing Development Authority.

Rayders fall in close game to St. Francis

The final score was 77 to 70.

The Rayders lost a close one to former head coach Keith Haske and the rival Traverse City St. Francis Gladiators. The Rayders led the Gladiators by 7 points at halftime and maintained a lead for most of the second half, but got outscored late in the fourth quarter. Charlevoix (6-5 overall, 3-4 in the conference) is back in action on Tuesday when they take on the Cedarville Trojans at home. Rayders fall to Grayling

The final score was 70 to 68.

The Charlevoix Rayders lost a close game Friday night, falling to the Grayling Vikings. The Rayders trailed 32 to 28 at halftime and at one point in the third quarter trailed by as much as 7 points, but the Rayders battled back to take the lead late in the fourth quarter. A few costly turnovers at the end of the game led to the eventual Charlevoix loss. Leading the way for Charlevoix were Andrew Potter (25 points, 7 assists, 6 rebounds) and Will Jeakle (18 points). The Rayders take on former head coach Keith Haske and the rival Traverse City Saint Francis Gladiators at home on Friday, January 24th. Rayders prevail over Harbor Springs

The final score was 75 to 40.

The Charlevoix Rayders dominated the Harbor Springs Rams, winning by 35 points. Leading the way for the Rayders were Andrew Plude (26 points), Charlie Hamilton (14 points), and Devan Drain (8 points). The Rayders (6-3 overall, 3-2 in conference) take on the Grayling Vikings next Tuesday, January 24th in Grayling. The Undefeated Northmen Defeat The Alpena Wildcats On Thursday Night

The final score was 67 to 51.

The Petoskey Northmen captured their 11th straight win with the victory over the Wildcats in Alpena on Thursday night. The Wildcats put on the offensive pressure on the Northmen in the first half of the game as Alpena took an early 15 to 8 lead over the Northmen in the 1st quarter.  The Northmen pressed on in the second quarter and were able to tie the game up in the final seconds of the half until Devin Oneil of the Wildcats was able to sink a 3 point shot to push Alpena passed Petoskey 23 to 20.

 The game had been well contested by Alpena until the last 3 minutes of the third quarter.  Zak Lewis sank crucial 3 point shots  as Petoskey gained momentum on the court and finished the game with 26 points.  The Northmen kept their offensive drive alive in the 4th quarter and The Northmen picked up the win.   Sam Baumgartner added 12 points for the Northmen in the effort and  Erik Davenport finished with 9 points. 

The Northmen will take on the Gaylord Blue Devils in Petoskey on Tuesday, January 24th.  Tune into The All New 1340 AM The Ticket at 7:15 pm to catch all the play-by-play action with Brian Shaw and Steve Behan.

Michigan pulls out win over in-state rival MSU

The final score was 60 to 59.

Senior guard Stu Douglass hit a layup with 36 seconds left to lead the No. 20 Michigan Wolverines over rival No. 9 Michigan State Spartans. The Wolverines led by 11 points at one point early in the second half, but the Spartans battled back to take a 3 point lead with 5:05 left in the second half, and held that lead until the Douglass layup in the final seconds. Leading the Wolverines were Trey Burke (20 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists), Tim Hardaway Jr. (10 points, 2 assists), and Zack Novak (10 points, 2 assists). Michigan (15-4, 5-2 in Big Ten) has won three straight games against Michigan State. Michigan will travel to Arkansas to take on the Razorbacks on Saturday, tune in at 1:30 PM to catch all the action with Matt Sheppard on the all new 1340 AM The Ticket.
